Long-Term Disability (LTD) Case Management
Long-term disability does not mean the end of recovery or return-to-work opportunities.
Dallas Mercer provides active, evidence-based case management throughout extended absences. We maintain meaningful employee connection, assess medical and functional progress, identify and address barriers, and continually explore opportunities for recovery, rehabilitation, accommodation, and safe, sustainable return-to-work where appropriate.
Case management considers applicable plan provisions, organizational policies, collective agreements, human rights obligations, and legislative requirements throughout the absence.
How We Manage LTD Claims
Ongoing Case Management
Maintain direction and momentum.
Actively manage the LTD claim throughout the absence, continually assessing progress, barriers, changing circumstances, and opportunities for appropriate action.
Medical & Functional Information Review
Understand how recovery is progressing.
Obtain, review, and clarify updated medical and functional information to inform case direction, accommodation, rehabilitation, and return-to-work opportunities.
Recovery & Rehabilitation Planning
Identify opportunities for progress.
Assess recovery and rehabilitation needs and identify appropriate interventions that may support improved function and workplace participation.
Return-to-Work & Reintegration Planning
Keep work in the conversation.
Identify opportunities for graduated work, accommodation, or other forms of workplace participation and develop individualized strategies for safe, sustainable return-to-work where appropriate.
Human Rights & Accommodation Considerations
Recognize when further inquiry may be required.
Consider human rights obligations throughout the disability management process, including the duty to inquire and duty to accommodate where circumstances indicate they may apply.
Stakeholder Communication
Keep everyone informed and aligned.
Maintain regular, proactive communication with employees, employers, insurers, healthcare providers, unions where applicable, and other stakeholders to support coordinated decisions and maintain momentum.
Claim Direction & Coordination
Keep the claim actively managed.
Bring together relevant information, stakeholders, and specialized expertise while continually reassessing the claim and pursuing appropriate opportunities for progress, workplace participation, and resolution.
The Result: Organizations maintain active oversight of long-duration claims, stronger employee connection, and continued focus on recovery and return-to-work opportunities—reducing the likelihood that LTD claims become passive, unnecessarily prolonged, or disconnected from the workplace.
